Medical Lab Assistant / Microbiology

Job Description

We are seeking a full-time Medical Lab Assistant to join our Microbiology team at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. As part of a 656-bed hospital, you will play a vital role in healthcare delivery, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

• Promote professionalism and create a cooperative work environment.
• Ensure specimens are obtained following laboratory guidelines.
• Communicate essential patient or sample data effectively to care providers.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Follow procedural directions, prioritize workload, and assist coworkers.
• Handle specimen packaging, transport, patient registration, and lab test ordering.
• Practice proper infection control, patient identification, and specimen transport.
• Perform drug screen collection, answer department calls, and monitor assignments.
• Participate in self-evaluation, continuous improvement, and accountability for patient care.
• Contribute to service excellence, laboratory growth, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Perform laboratory tests, assist in equipment preparation, and support related processes.
• Engage in courier duties and demonstrate readiness to address emergent situations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills and strong customer service orientation.
• Preferred: Certification as a phlebotomist upon hire and as a medical lab assistant within 2 years.
• Experience in a clinical setting is advantageous.
